Many folks who live in gated communities are already used to seeing their neighbors scooting around on golf carts. Well soon enough, Celebration, Florida residents will be seeing Neighborhood Electric Vehicles (NEVs) replacing these golf carts. Unlike golf carts, which have a maximum speed of 10 miles per hour, NEVs can reach a top speed of 25-35 miles per hour. NEVs are legal on roads with posted speed limits of 35 miles per hour or less. And whereas golf carts do not have any safety features, NEVs come complete with headlights, windshields, windshield wipers, running lights, headlights, brake lights, reflectors, rearview mirrors, turn signals and three-point seat belts. NEVs are also known as Low Speed Vehicles (LSVs) and offer a driving range of approximately 30 miles per charge. NEVs have been authorized for use in some communities including Playa Vista, Lincoln and Coronado in California, Discovery bay in Hong Kong and Celebration, Florida. So we should be seeing some NEVs out there on Celebration roads soon enough.

Prices for NEVs start at around $7,000 for two seat models and can get to over $15,000 for a Hummer H3. The Hummer H3 from General Motors is one of the more expensive models on the market.
